Our recent Sky at Night programme about the Northern Lights seems to have attracted a lot of attention. To be honest, I don’t think we can take too much of the credit for this as we could have just shown the Lights and people would still have watched open mouthed.
To get a taste of it, the BBC have put a clip from the broadcast up on Youtube, so sit back, pour yourself a glass of aquavit and enjoy :

Having missed the Sky at Night episode and the iPlayer catch-up, it was great to see this Chris. My wife and I have just returned from Tromso after a few days of successful aurora hunting. I also managed to capture a few images of my own. We also met Kjetil Skogli on the banks of a very chill fjord at midnight. The aurora was an unforgettable experience which we hope to repeat some time.

Hi Chris,
Having taken a Northern Lights flight a few years back when you gave the lecture beforehand, this brought back some great memories. Brilliant stuff!
John.

Chris,
that is excellent and I must say that the show was very good.
Your opening statement intrigues me, do you have a measure of ‘a lot of attention’ as the STP community could find this quite useful?

There is a fantastic comment made during this video (3 mins +).
Rough quote: “There is more energy being dissipated by the aurora borealis than in all the power stations in the world put together!” … “mostly 100km above our heads” … “if we could gain access it it would probably solve our energy needs forever” … “difficult to get a plug up there tho.”
: -)
Excellent piece of information. I shall store it away and bring out over a pint with friends sometime – “solutions please”.

On a 50 inch plasma screen it was really something to see those colours… Btw you look really relaxed and confident, quite different from even a few months back and a totally different person compared to the early episodes. Like you’re the proper host of the show (no offence to Patrick Moore)

Spectacular show and brilliant photography. I have never see the Northern Lights, but hope to some day soon.

Hi Chris.
Thanks for a good and interesting time with you and the team. The sky is mostly to bright for the Light at this time, but it also good to have a time off after a long and busy season. A good season with a lot of nice displays, after all.
Maybe we meet next season
All the best

hmmm, seems my last comment is also trapped in moderation. Somehow I don’t think that I am going to get an answer to my question here. Oh Well.

Wow! That must have been something to see…
